How to learn card magic (Roadmap 2021)

I was 15 when I first saw shin Lim performing card magic. I was amazed and hooked at the same time. I binged and watched all of his magic videos again and again. Now I wanted to know How to learn card magic.

But there were so many books and magicians to learn from. I didn’t know how to get started? Now you are in the same position as I was.

Now let’s answer your question, How to learn card magic?

Books are definitely the best way to learn card magic. Almost most of the card magic you can learn through books. Youtube is another option. And there are many paid courses available which teach card magic.

Above I have given you sources from which you can learn card magic. But learning card magic requires patience and there are many ways you can learn.

So, I am going to give you a roadmap. So that you can follow it and reduce your learning time.

5 steps Process to learn card magic: Beginners guide

1. Learn the basics

First thing first your basics should be dialled in. Learn the grips, and shuffles, and learn how to handle cards. How to spread cards. And learn a few shuffles that can help you later while performing.

If you are serious about learning card magic. Then I would highly recommend Roberto Giobbi’s Card college volume 1-5 it’s a great source for beginners. And even for some intermediate Card magicians.

2. Learn a few easy card magic tricks

After learning the basics you should learn a few magic tricks. This will help you learn better and make you a better magician. You can through Youtube videos in the beginning.

But later try to avoid Youtube videos. As you can acquire bad practising habits. Which a beginner magician wants to be able to recognize.

And try to learn a few tricks. Don’t try to learn many tricks. As Bruce Lee said, “ I FEAR NOT The man who has practised 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practised one kick 10,000 times”. You may think about how this correlates to card magic.

The only thing that differentiates a beginner card magician from a pro is that. A pro card magicians learn a few card magic perfectly, but an amateur one tries to learn hundreds of magic tricks without mastering one.

3. Practice, Practice, and Practice again

Card magic can be a really fun hobby to have. But you only enjoy something that you have practised. So practising is very important. You should not only practise card tricks but also how you going to perform in front of others. Visualization is a hack that I use while practising.

4. Perform in front of others

The best way to practice magic is by performing in front of others. I remember I used to annoy my brother a lot. This can be very effective as it will your confidence to perform in front of others.

5. Develop a routine

Last but not least. Develop a routine. Now you may be thinking what is routine. A routine is a collection of 3-4 or even more magic tricks that you practice. This helps you avoid the uncertainty of thinking about which Card magic to show.

Preferably you should add different kinds of tricks. Like one close-up card trick, another self-working, and the third can be gimmicked or some other variation. I hope you understood what I am saying.

Conclusion

Follow other magicians and see how they perform what they say how they act everything. Follow the above road map and you can learn card magic in record time.
